SHAKE IT (LIKE A POLAROID PICTURE!) | SAT 16 NOV | ZIERHOLZ @ UC

UC Live! & STRANGEWAYS DJS present... SHAKE IT (like a polaroid picture!) - a celebration of Canberra's nightlife in the 2000s!

You're young and you're in post-millennium Canberra. You turn 18. For a while, going out here means little more than Mooseheads and a few lonely (if talented) buskers.

But then, slowly - through friends, or perhaps an older brother or sister - you discover Canberra's true night life: a thriving scene of music lovers, DJs and promoters running big nights in small spaces. Together you run the gauntlet of musical trends, breakups, venue closures and hangovers.

Friends: you may have grown a little since then (our beloved hometown is 100 this year, after all), but SATURDAY 16 NOVEMBER is your chance to relive every dancefloor memory with the cream of Canberra's DJ nights of the noughties!

DJs LITHIUM JAY and LITHIUM MICHAEL, from Canberra's most legendary alternative night, will return to the decks for the first time since TOAST closed. Think BLUR meets THE PRODIGY… POP WILL EAT ITSELF!

Flying the flag for Canberra's hardest working dance night, original PANG! resident OFFTAPIA will drop a set of premium 2000S ELECTRO, recalling the glory days of LOT 33.

Where would any beats night in Canberra be without UG BEATS? Simply the best at keepin' it one hunned, founder ALISTAIR ERSKINE will be cutting ELECTIC HIP HOP TINGS & TEMPOS.

REV may have had the best funeral ever… but founder ALEXISALEX and long time resident RADAR are gonna revive that indie renaissance with back to back, post-Y2K INDIE JAMS!

Ambitious, impulsive and extremely DIY… STRANGEWAYS DJS will roll deep and close out with a set of EXCLUSIVE, NEXT-LEVEL MASHUPS and VIP bassy classics.

This is your hot-blooded youth in one night! Bring your friends: one of these DJs was probably shakin' it in the background when you met ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

$5 entry. ZIERHOLZ @ UC.

SPLENDOUR IN THE BAR 2013

What's that DRAPHT you can feel blowing across the (FRANK) OCEAN, over the WAVVES of Lake Burley Griffin and into THE NATIONAL Captial? Why, it's the return of the incomparable SPLENDOUR IN THE BAR!

In this, its fifth year, of course you'll see the return of the famous SYNTHETIC GRASS DANCEFLOOR… but we've delved deeper into the world OF MONSTERS AND MEN (and BOYS & BEARS) than ever before to bring you a true POLYPHONIC SPREE: it's A SPLENDOUR MINI FESTIVAL (from 8pm)! Featuring COLD WAR (KIDS) defectors STRANGEWYS + the JUNGLE GIANTS of Canberra: #GRLPWR, JK ROLLIN', RADAR, BAMBII, ARCHITECT DJS, NEONBOMBS and PELVIC.

Come midnight, STRANGEWAYS DJS will drop a SERIES OF MINI-SETS from the top SPLENDOUR HEADLINERS… that's HALF AN HOUR OF (PORTUGAL) THE MAN himself, FRANK OCEAN - plus the best of the rest: PASSION PIT, JAMES BLAKE, PRESETS, FLUME (and whatsonot…).

So don't be a (CHET) FAKER and practise the ART OF SLEEPING: (YOLANDA) BE COOL and use your FLIGHT FACILITIES to FLUME up to the TRANSIT BAR on 3 AUGUST! YOU AM I will have fun together, dancing to EVERYTHING EVERYTHING you've ever heard on TV or ON THE RADIO in a BABYSHAMBOLIC PASSION PIT! Watch out for in flying LITTLE GREEN CARS, though: MATT CORBY is gonna be AIRBOURNE and on the THE GROWL and we hear he's a real DAUGHTER FIDLAR! (ladies… watch your DEAP VALLY … he's VIOLENT (SOHO): last time he had a TWINSY he drew (SURFER) BLOOD and gave PVT to all the VILLAGERS).

But where's the (FAT FREDDY'S) DROP?? With YEEZUS off studying ARCHITECTURE IN HELSINKI, come 2:00am, $TRNGWY$ will drop the vowels, the mollys and an (ALISON) WONDERLAND of future bass bombs. Wade into the UNKNOWN (MORTAL ORCHESTRA)!

See you all before 10pm for $10 ENTRY, or $15 after 10 (unless you're a MUMFORD with SONS, in which case there's a family discount).

SPLENDOUR IN THE BAR 2012

SATURDAY 4 AUGUST // TRANSIT BAR

Last year's SPLENDOUR IN THE BAR bore witness to some of the longest queues and most dazed and confused mornings-after Canberra has ever seen. It left the STRANGEWAYS DJS wondering: CAN WE GET MUCH HIGHER? (Because legally, we can't get any louder). So this year, we're going GOOD, BETTER, BEST… OF SPLENDOUR!

SPLENDOUR IN THE BAR will not only deliver the best the 2012 SPLENDOUR IN THE GRASS LINEUP has to offer: with your help we'll also create a 1HR MIDNIGHT MEGAMIX of the greatest music EVER PLAYED at SPLENDOUR to celebrate the blossoming of the festival's HOT, FORBIDDEN TWEEN-AGE FRUIT. And of course, we're also bringing:

A SYNTHETIC GRASS DANCEFLOOR! The incomparable local talent of RADAR and ARCHITECT DJs! And the awesome audio-visual spectacle that is the STRANGEWAYS DJS, under a canopy of STARS.

Not since the LAST DINOSAURS will you experience such EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY. There's some BIG SCARY GOSSIP going round that it MIIKE SNOW. Then again, it miike not. Either way, a LANA DEL REY of sunshine is coming into your world on SATURDAY 4 AUG! We heard KANYE doesn't care about (JACK) WHITE people, but he might just show up for a SMASHING (PUMPKINS) BLOC PARTY. If you put on your best AFGHAN WIGS and end up AT THE DRIVE IN, you'll not only be missing SPLENDOUR IN THE BAR – your FRIENDS will declare SHIHAD and shoot DZ DEATHRAYS at you!

Alternatively, if you bring your (MUD)HONEY down to the Transit Bar, you can (AZEALIA) BANK on a (ALISON) WONDERLAND of FUN with some BEAUTIFUL GIRLS! You might even have a DIRTY THREE-some – just remember to put double GLOVES on your FLUME before you DJANGO DJANGO (you know what we're talking about).

So come down to Transit Bar on SATURDAY 4 AUGUST and do a 360 ALLEY-OOP with your LADYHAWKE!

(And with all the luxurious synthetic grass, we promise you won't join the BLEEDING KNEES CLUB… you know… you won’t graze your knees on it… OK)

$10 // $7 if you 'check in' to the event or Transit Bar on Facebook on the night!

Post your all-time favourite SPLENDOUR SONGS on the event wall and they might just find their way into the mix!
